Labiaplasty
Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure used to minimize the size of the labia Minora, also known as the protruding skin on each side of the vaginal opening. Asymmetrical or enlarged labia minora folds can cause significant discomfort during sexual intercourse, leading to decreased self-confidence.
What should you expect during the procedure?
Labiaplasty is performed on an outpatient basis, so you can return home the same day. The duration of the procedure will depend on your specific treatment plan. Dr. Edward O’Dell will discuss these options with you during the initial consultation.
There are two main types of labiaplasty. Reducing the labia majora allows you to reduce the size and shape of the outer lips of the vagina. Reducing the labia minora allows you to reduce the size and shape of the inner lips.
These cuts are made either using a trimming technique or using a wedge-shaped technique. During the procedure, Dr. O’Dell removes excess skin around the outer edge of the labia. When performing the wedge-shaped technique, a v-shaped “wedge” is cut out of the labia at the widest point, then the edges are sewn together.
